These inspection methods provide know-how for inspecting cam & groove couplings.

  • Examine the coupling surface for nicks, cuts, scratches, dents, or pitting. If any of these conditions is present, abandon the coupling.
  • Examine the groove area of the adaptor for excessive wear or dents. If either is present, abandon the adaptor.
  • Check the adaptor by inserting it into a new coupler. If the adaptor does not move smoothly in and out of the coupler, the adaptor should be abandoned.
  • Check the coupler by inserting it into a new adaptor. If the adaptor does not move smoothly in and out of the coupler, the coupler should be abandoned.
  • Set coupler in a vertical position, insert the adaptor until it contacts coupler seal. The angles of both cam handles should align with each other, so they are in the same height.
  • If the cam handles are less than 60°, replace both cam handles and the pins. Then re-insert, if they're still not over 60°, the coupler should be abandoned.
  • Check if the cam handles can be moved up and down smoothly and examine the cam handles with a new one for dents, excessive wear or bent. If any of these conditions is present, replace both cam handles.
  • The pin must be replaced along with the new handle. The sizes and specs of the new accessories must be aligned with the old ones.
  • The new seal should be compatible with the material that is to be conveyed. The color marked on the side of the seal is for material identification.
  • Check both safety pins for bent or breakage or check if the pin holes were blocked. If any of these conditions is present, replace both safety pins.
